About Jenesis

your truth doula

Jenesis

I’d seen enough statistics of mortality rates, first food deserts, obstetrics negligence, horrifying stories of black mothers and babies dying at the hands of medical providers and hospitals, etc; many of which hit very close to home. I decided to stop toying with the idea of becoming a doula and put action to it by completing my training with the International Doula Institute. During training I found myself asking women about their birthing experiences and was amazed at the stories I was hearing and how open women were to sharing their birth and postpartum stories with me. Too many stories sounded the same: traumatic experiences, feelings of negligence and lack of basic knowledge concerning childbirth and postpartum.

Shortly after deciding to further my doula career, I found out I was pregnant and was able to apply everything I’d learned and experienced for my own birth. It was magical to have my partner, mother, and doula all in the room supporting me as I brought my daughter into the world. I set out to do a water birth and through all the doubters and naysayers, God saw fit that all my desires were met.

As a young black doula, I vow to clothe my fellow birthing POC, and ALL birthers with the knowledge and confidence they deserve when it comes to doing the very thing their body was created to do. I want to help support new parents through this journey to ensure it’s nothing less than magical and transformative!
